Red Canoe - National Heritage Brands was born in a bush plane over Northern Ontario. It lives to celebrate things that people should more often share. Their experiences; the imagery, the romance and the history. Their adventures; the camaraderie, the rewards and the memories. Their passions, their dreams and how they persevere.
Red Canoe draws on these ideals to create unique quality apparel. Tough, comfortable outdoor clothing built to be worn. Dedicated to the promotion of historic and cultural icons, it is classic clothing that, like the symbols it honours, will stand the test of time.
President and Founder Dax Wilkinson came by his adventurous spirit and love of the outdoors honestly. Growing up in Northern Ontario, his time was spent flying in the legendary DeHavilland Beaver into remote hunting and fishing camps. Aird Island, his family retreat on the North Channel of Georgian Bay, has been his source of inspiration since 1973.
Dax’s upbringing fostered a love of not only the outdoors, but the history and traditions of the pioneering people and organizations of the past. In 2002 he set out to create a line to honour classic aviators, sea men, forgotten outfitters, and military and law enforcement outfits.
By celebrating heritage we hope to inspire a heightened respect and love for a particular place in all those who live and visit there. Through our products we hope to empower people to celebrate their heritage and the community in which they live. Be passionate about your dreams and pass them on.
